A Light Bulb Thought…
Yesterday, as I was sitting around doing nothing, a thought suddenly occurred to me.
People (mostly parents) tell us “Why’d you waste your money on that!?” or “You should save your money rather than spending it on those!”
It’s all about this, that, these, those, which will most likely be objects that can be in one’s hands shortly (or not) after purchase.
So what my sudden light bulb suggested was, what if we didn’t think of spending or “wasting” our money on that thing, but rather, spending our money on the time which was partly contributed by that thing.
To illustrate, someone is at some gift shop during a trip with his/her family. He/she then purchases some key holder, which his/her family think is a waste of money. Rather than only focusing on that one specific key holder as the target of money-spending, which usually leads to the “waste of money” remark, people may consider thinking “Okay, we’ve spent some money for this trip and invaluable time, and this key holder is a part of it”.
To me, this would make it a whole lot easier before and/or after purchasing something. Of course, I refer to things that most people would consider “a waste of money” or makes one think “why’d I buy this again?” If time is money, wouldn’t anything else involved within time be considered as well?
Now to clarify, this isn’t to say to go out and use this as an excuse to go on a mad shopping spree and go bankrupt. Only for those times when we get lost on purchasing a small something for no good reason.
